As a first time visitor to the Caribbean, and with 4-7 days to spend there, I'm having a difficult time figuring out where to go. I'm female, traveling independently, and looking for a place with good swimming & snorkeling beaches, non-touristy, non-honeymoonish, low key but with an interesting local scene. Availability to do organized group trips for kayaking, snorkeling, etc...would be great. A combo of lazy beaching & active adventures would be ideal. Oh - and not priced out in the atmosphere. St. John's seems to fit the bill so far, but is there anyplace else I should consider?

Bocas del Toro in Panama is fun, and outside the hurricane belt...

if you're going to throw caution to the wind and go to the Caribbean anyway, the BVIs are also nice, safe, with organized activities possible like day snorkle trips to other islands

St John looks beautiful from the boat, but I havent stayed there...
