How to move around Punta Cana and Bávaro

Hi there!

Anyone could tell me how to get around Punta Cana and Bávaro? We are staying at Punta Cana but have the feeling everything revolves around Bávaro beach there....How much could be a taxi for instance from Bávaro to somewhere near the airport, the Club Med or Punta Cana town? Is it possible to move around on public transport? Even at night?

Other than this, what's best for money there? Do they take US dollars or just pesos? Is it better to change some US dollars before travelling (coming from the UK)?
