Anyone have a suggestion for a backpackers or some affordable accomodation near Hamilton when I arrive in Bermuda next week?
What's your definition of "cheap accomodations" by Bermuda standards? I am looking at going in a few months (haven't been before) and the low end of everything I'm finding is between about $100 - $150. A search of prior thorn tree posts doesn't come up with anything to the contrary and that appears to even be what the locals are saying. I'm hoping that your budget is expandable enough to accomodate the island? If you need the names of a couple of places in the $100+ price range let me know. Good luck and if you find anything cheaper you'd be doing us all a great favor by posting it.

you are getting into tourist season, so I'd say you won't find anything much below $100. you could try Salt Kettle guest house. It isn't in Hamilton but is a short ferry ride away across Hamilton harbour. try looking in the yellow pages (www.bermudayp.com) for guest houses. NB- the ones actually in Hamilton will likely cost a bit more than those out of town.

The Barngrove Guest Apts near Devonshire is the cheapest I've found and their rates run $85-$120 USD. They are near Hamilton.

Bermuda is a small, crowded, fairly affluent island which has had for decades a firm idea of the kind of tourist industry it wants (middle to upper income couples and families staying in resorts and upscale guest houses, cruise ships in moderation). It does not encourage backpacker type tourism and therefore accomodation of that type is not available.
