I want to fly from Colombia to Jamaica but I'm fed up of taking connecting flights in Miami because of all the procedures such as having to take your bags off the plane. Does anyone know of any airlines that fly directly there, or via another country. I could go via Panama but can't currently find any direct flights from Panama to Jamaica. Any suggestions?

Hi
I've read the previous posting about a gay man wanting to visit Jamaica and the advice to stay in the closet. We (me and my female partner) have just booked a holiday in Jamaica, stupidly before we did our research - it was a spur of the moment stress busting move. Having realised how homophobic the country is, we are worried about visiting. We are not likely to be 'in your face' as a couple, but were wondering whether it would be an issue booking a double room. We've seen a boutique hotel in…

After a night of heavy drinking two of my friends and I just decided we'd like to go to Jamaica for a few days next week because our schedules line up. While we're normally pretty well into independent backpacking and living like paupers on the road, we decided this time we want to a) be lazy b) drink a lot c) not have much responsibility.

We don't know much about Jamaica that isn't gleaned from Cool Runnings other than what's been in the news recently, so we were all wondering what the laziest…

Hi,

My partner and I are planning our first trip to the Caribbean and after weeks and weeks of looking/researching we've decided on the island of Jamaica and Montego Bay.

From looking at all the various review sites for hotels we are both totally confused as to what to go for, however, we've narrowed it down to two potential hotels:

Iberostar Grand Hotel Rose Hall & Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa

Both are offering a 5* experience with various prices on various sites.

Although I live in…

I'm going to be living in Kingston for four months starting mid-August for work, and I was hoping that I could get some advice on apartment hunting. I'll be staying in a hostel/hotel when I first arrive, but aside from checking the classified adds on The Gleaner, I'm not sure how to go finding an apartment. My office will be in New Kingston, on Dominica Drive (near the New Kingston Shopping Center, I think), and ideally I would like to be within 20-30min walking distance from there. I'd…

I stay in St. Thomas for a week this past January and really enjoyed it. I was thinking of going again this coming January and then someone mentioned Jamaica. Can anyone compare and contrast them? I'm looking for quiet beaches with snorkeling, reasonably priced accommodations and good restaurants.

I'm planning to spend NYE on Jost and would like to check out a few other islands on this trip. I'll have about 2 weeks in total and will be flying from NYC.

I've already been to St John (stayed with friends and loved it) and St Thomas as well as Puerto Rico. I would prefer to visit islands that have somewhat of a backpacker scene, a younger crowd, decent nightlife and culture vs. islands primarily visited by couples and cruise ships and containing resorts.

I heard Dominica and parts of St…

We are going to Jamaica for 10 days leaving July 22, 2010. This is my plan:
MoBay 3 nights at the Sunset Beach. (Wife is travel agent -- got hotel free) We are going to check out the Sumfest Reggae Fest.
Ochi for 2 nights - Vacation rental on ridge above Ochi (Birdcage #2)
Manchioneal 2 nights (Zion Country)
Long Bay 2 nights Vacation rental on beach (Pineapple Isle)
Last night Rose Hall AI (free)

It seems jamaica is not so family friendly. Our group has 2 couples plus my 15-yr-old son. All the…

Looking to take a trip to Montego Bay with some buddies (all young 20s) - All we want is a beach, good nightlife, and some good outdoor water and land activities. Going for a week.

Not looking for the entire trip to be entirely spring break, but ideally young people around us to meet and go out with.

1) Is Montego Bay ideal for this?
2) If so, can anyone recommend a good beach hotel/resort which is more young people focused, and non older/honeymoon/couple focused?

Thanks
