Hi,

I'm a student planning to head to Jamaica with a couple of friends around February 20-28. We don't want to stay in a resort, and don't plan on spending all our days dozing on the beach with fruity drinks, but we aren't sure where to start.

We want to get the most out of a limited budget (around $500 for the week pp): nightlife, nature, culture... good food, good rum, good music, art..
We're interested in an authentic experience as the saying goes. That said, I'm interested in maybe hiking…

Hi. I'm currently in Bolivia and I'm looking to head up to the Caribbean in a couple of weeks. The problem is that flying is out of my price range by the looks of it. (The cheapest flights I've found are around 600 GBP) so I was wondering about ftravelling by sea, as I heard there were ferries from Venezuela to the Caribbean. Is this still the case? I'm willing to travel around if it means finding a decently priced crossing (preferably under 200 GBP, but really the cheaper the better for me.)…

Hi,

My fiance and I have decided to go to Jamaica for our honeymoon in December. I read a lot of articles about the things to do in Negril as well as Montego Bay. We will be in Jamaica for a week. I was thinking of doing
4 days in Negril (to unwind after the wedding)
3 days in MoBay (for activities that MoBay offers)

Does that sounds like a reasonable split? My reasoning is that we might get bored in Negril after 4 days and would then be up for some kind of activity. Or do you think that Negril…

Hello and thanks in advance.

How much should a taxi be from Montego Bay (airport) to Negril? My hotel offered to set one up, but I want to see how much it would be if I did it upon arrival. Another question - in Negril are there ATM's around? What is the best way to get cash?
Thanks!

Visiting Jamaica for a three week holiday late August, 2010. Last visited in 2007. Can anyone recommend a decent rental company.

Now for my rant.
It's the only country the whole family adore and have ever revisited.
The only headache is that one needs a calculator for every transaction. Villas are rented by the day instead of weeks. Cars are rented at a price, then you have to choose from half a dozen types of insurance and if the small print isn't read the vehicle may come without tyres…

Tipping

I will be visiting an all-inclusive in Jamaica (the first time for both) next week. I was wondering if I can tip workers in US dollars? Or should I convert to Jamaican dollars before I go?
