Visited the Riu in Ocho Rios in August, and while we had a good time (don't miss the fabulous jerked chicken from the beach hut), we were puzzled by the skimpy resources given to their activities crew. They had only one, beat-up, lopsided volleyball that they had to stitch up when the bladder started protruding. And two volleyball courts! And people waiting to play in shifts.
When we complained, one of the crew said they go through two volleyballs a week. That was total BS, because that ball was clearly months old, and that's all we saw during the week we were there. Except for the day there was no ball because the activity crew lost it. (Turned out that one of them had carried it up to the pool to use in water games! The only volleyball they had???)
That's a strange way to cut costs for a place that has booze on tap in every room! They should have a closet full of balls. If you like to play on the beach, byob!
