Hello,

I am planning a one week trip to Jamaica starting December 27,2010. I am lost on where to go and what type of place to stay! I am on somewhat of a budget and would like to spend time on amazing beaches (not too touristy), surf at this time of year, scuba dive, experience true live reggae, and enjoy nightlife. Any thoughts on how to plan out this short amount of time would be so greatly appreciated! Is there one main area that would include all these activities during December? How are the all inclusive hotels (for a couple)? Would we still be able to travel outside of the resort areas if we did choose one?
Thanks very much!

You got 3 choices
1) Negril- great beach (7 miles), plenty of night life, no surfing, can snorkell (better by cliffs), some live reggae, but VERY touristy.
2) Treasure Beach- No great beach, but several small uncrowed ones, very non-touristy, can snokell (better by boat), no scuba, quiet nightlife, possible surf (questionable for December), no live Reggae, but very friendly local community.
3) Port Antonio- better to arrive via Kingston, some surfing, possible snorkling and scuba ,quiet nightlife, no live Reggae, good small uncrowded beaches, very non-touristy.
My favorite is Treasure Beach http://www.treasurebeach.net

There are many locations in Montego Bay, Negril and Ochi Rios that will be perfect for you. The all inclusive hotels allow the guest to travel outside of the hotel when the guest is travelling with a known or reputable driver. The disadvantage with the all inclusive is the cost also they are very touristy. One way of beating the disadvantages is by staying at a villa that will also provide free pass to a all inclusive hotel for the required occasions (Restaurants or Diving). Access to night life and live cultural music is available along with travelling around, a private transporter will also be given to you as a part of the package. Here is a contact number for Paradise Villa in Montego Bay 1876-864-3270.

Thanks soo so much for all of this advice! I am still having a hard time deciding between all inclusive or just getting different hostels or villas along the way but this definitely helps! thanks!

If you are planning on moving around Jamaica, it is definitely better and much cheaper to stay at the local "guesthouses" are "villas".
All-inclusives require adavance booking to get the cheapest deals. If you just show up without an reservation, you will pay way more for the room.
You will also get a more "authentic" feel for Jamaica by stying in the guesthouses and villa.
The guesthouses are also cheaper then the villas.
ONE LOVE !!
