Hi folks (especially the regular contibutors),

Myspouse and I are in Kingston now. We are staying wth a friend. Last weekend we travelled around the eastern side of the island & next weeknd to Negril. We are thinking to go to Ocho tmrw until Sat (when our friend will pick us up to go west). Do you recommend any places/hostels ($30-50/room)? We see Villa Sake and Seascape on hostelworld; but no recommendations/comments... We would like to be on the water and walking to a resteraunt or grocery.

2ndQ: What is Port Maria like? Thinkin as an alternative to Ocho?

3rdQ: Is there a bus from Kingston directly there (either place)? Any advice on transport would be great too.

Thanks! I know this isreally short notice--hopefully you are on-line now? :-)

Not much in Port Maria itself. Oracabessa, Robbins Bay and related areas have interesting accommodations and surroundings. ( See past TT posts)

There is a bus from Half Way Tree to Annatto Bay, then a shared taxi to Port Maria, and a minibus to Ochi.

Thx Weaver!

We decided on Ocho--not sure where yet. Anyway, we booked a bus from Kingston to Ocho thru Kuntzford express; 876-971-1822 or 876-960-5499; www.kuntzford express.com
Price: 1200 jamaican dollar
about $15 USD

You can try staying at "Little Shaw Park" for the price you want.

Of course, ackeepod! I've done it. Don't know what that little "brain fart" as about....... And I completely forgot that the Knutsford Express also ran to Ochi. Sheesh!

Probably too late but a sweet waterfront spot with a nice little private beach is Blue harbor, Noel Coward's old home. 3 villas...we were offered a walk in rate of $50 in April and we aren't local so it might work for your budget. It's just west of Port Maria....and cool as all get out. Old movie star stuff everywhere, saltwater pool...
