We've booked a flight to Montego Bay but haven't sorted out our accomodation yet. Can someone recommend a reasonable place to stay in Negril or Montego Bay. It needs to be bike friendly as we're bringing a couple of bicycles to help get around. We're staying for 5 weeks arriving Dec 10.

Prices are all over the place in Negril. Give us a price range and we can probably recommend something in that range. Are you looking for a place on the beach, the cliffs or up in Red Ground where the locals live? You can ride a bike anywhere in Negril, but have to look out for the speedy drivers.
I'm a cliffs guy, as it is still on the water but more laid back than the beach.

Bob

Thanks Bob, our price range would be in the $30-$50 per night range, is this possible? We're also not adverse to staying amongst the locals as long as our belongings are safe while we're out. Close to the water would be best but not essential.

Try "Jah B's" on the main road across the street from the beach. (google it).
Also, the "Negril Yoga Center"
"Roots Bamboo" and "Alfred's" are other placs that are on the beach.
Take a look here for other places.

Remember, most rates go up starting December 20th which is when the shoulder season ends. Peak season is from Christmas through New Year. Many places will give a nice discount for a one month stay. Also, some of the places will give a deal such as pay for 6 nights get one free.
Here are a few places on the West End Road (cliffs) with direct access to the ocean.
Blue Cave Castle
Blue Cave a great place to stay. Very private and secure. There are only 2 rooms that are in your price range, the tower rooms.

Xtabi
The cheapest rooms are across the road from the main hotel, but you have access to the entire complex. Great place with a pool.

Samsara
The cheapest rooms are across the road from the main hotel, but you have access to the entire complex. They also have a really nice pool and entertainment once or twice a week. A little over budget, but in the past I've seen deals like pay for 5 nights get 2 free.

Here are places on the West End Road without direct access to the ocean.
Sea Star Inn
A favorite with long time visitors. Nice pool and Saturday night live music.
Magic Garden House
The Stoney Gate
Also browse the internet for Pee Wees Cottages and Croton Grove cottage.
There are plenty of cheap places to eat all along the West End Road.

Bob

Seastar is worth looking at for sure, lovely pool and gated with good places to put bikes.

Are you looking for a place for 5 weeks in Negril or you're spending 5 weeks in Jamaica and just some of that in Negril (I suggest the latter...)

Thanks for all the replies and good info. We'd like to spend a few weeks in Negril and a few weeks wandering around the island. It's our first time in Jamaica. I've been around a bit but it's my friend Diana's first trip outa' Canada.
