It will be a nice option to have, there is so little camping. Where in St Bess?

Hi Martel- what are the newly designed camping pods? Can you give a more specific location?

Jamaica needs more camping, Treasure Beach is pretty sparse.
There are not alot of camping options in the area. Ital Rest doesn't really mantain their camping facilities anymore, I only know of Ital Gardens and Treasure Tree House in Great Bay and Coot's place (a bit spendy at $20 per site) in Frenchmans.

Yes, security is main concern of most campers. If you have 200 acres in south coast of St.Elizabeth, it must be Ft.Charles/Parottee area you are referring to? How do you plan to secure? These are No go zones after dark, even for locals.

It might be better to enlist local paid help, rather than try to have volunteers take work from locals. For example, the going rate for a day laborer, cutting bush etc. is $1500J. It will be done much quicker by a local than anyone who reads this forum.

Other advice, after living in the area of south St.Elizabeth for almost 20 years, make sure before you invest too much time, energy and money that you truly have "secured" the land in a form of purchase or lease, overseen by an attorney. Anything else in Jamaica isn't secure by any means, remember, Jamaica is one of the few countries that offer "title insurance" in case something comes up with a title on a piece of land you've purchased which happens all too frequently.

Best of luck with the venture, let us know how it develops.

I really do not see "camping" as a viable option for Jamaica.
First, there are cheap options for rooms available for people on a campers budget, especially if they are more then one person travelling together.
Secondly, YES there is the security problem for sure. And in TB you will be very far from the main happenings around Great Bay and Frenchmen Bay.
Ital Rest offered camping, but it seems that still most budget people did not use it.
I still wish you "good luck" with your ventire, but you must wonder why this idea has not happened in JA before.
ONE LOVE !!

I thank every one for taking time out to respond to my enqueries and i have noted all coments as reguarding location of the intended campsite fortcharles is the place and as for being a no go zone area after dark i would say that about any place on this planet bearing in mind you don't trust no shadows after dark and i know irie rest do offer a camping facelity in a tiny way in the back yard, and i am sure lenny the current owner would not be offended in my larger scale and moor upmarket facelity as a matter of fact i do have is support in this new venture. regarding the land ownership i do have a registered title the property do have it's own independent water supply in the form of a borehole
and adequate security for campers will be one of my main priority, and being this idea is new for fortcharles i wll not invest too heavily or break the piggy bank but expand as demand and need arise.

best regard

my suggestion would be to have very clean communal showers, kitchen and common room facility like all over New Zealand (google Holiday Park) and perhaps an honor system bar like Ivan's Stress Free Bar and Campground on Jost Van Dyke. and if it is an iffy place at night- make your facility the happening, safe, cool, laid back place to be. Good Luck!
