Hi,

myself and my partner are going to jamaica for 2 wks in September and we want to see as much as possible so have decided to hire a car and we are thinking of staying in the following places.

I would just like some advice from anyone who has been if this sounds right or should we check out/stay in other places or maybe stay longer than we have allowed and less in other places. Also as we have the car we want to tour a bit and see the mountains etc so any recomendations welcome.

Thinking 3nts Port Antonio -

3nts New Kingston (my boyfriend is a big Reggae/Dub fan and wants to check out the nightlife - again any recommendations welcome, we are also unsure where to stay with a budget below $60)

Then 3 nights in Treasure Beach been looking at Billys Bay to chill and experience Jamaica and finally 5 nights in Negril.

We are in our late 20's/30's and like to party and chill as well, so looking for a bit of everything.

Any help would be appreciated

thanks

Laura

Sounds good to me.
My only suggestions would be to stay on Frenchmen Bay in Treasure Beach, because most of the happenings are there, and the cafes and bars are there.
Also, since you will have your own car, you can explore some of the Blue Mountains while you are in Kingston.
Keep in mind that from Porty-Kingston-TB-Negril will be alot of driving.
ONE LOVE !!

it's a big trip for... did i count right,11 days? not so bad. i've gone around the island in 7. so yes, it can be done. but from what i read, it sounds like you'll be flying in and out of kingston, and your last night is in negril. it's a long, long drive from negril to kingston. you're going to need an extra day in there to get back. stay your last night at morgan's harbor in port royal (just 15 minutes from the airport [actually it's a great place to stay the whole time you're in kingston]). it's a great place to stay your first night there too.

What they said....plus if you fly in and out of Kingston, consider doing something like Port A > Negril > Treasure Beach with Kingston at the beginning or the end - if you want nightlife I'd suggest being there on a weekend.

Morgan's Harbor is a great landing spot or last night spot but is more like $100 a night. For $60ish in New Kingston look at Mikuzi.

Sandhurst guest house is around $50US per night ...safe secure with security on the property and is near New Kingston , has A/C and restaurant on property .. close to Bob marley museum and other attractions in Kgn ....by walking or public transportation

Thanks for all your replies, they have really helped, we are going for 14nts and flying in to Montego bay so now thinking of staying for 1nt there then 3nts Port Antonio, 2nts Kingston/Mountains? - 3nts Fremchmen Bay and 5nts Negril. We enjoy driving and seeing the countryside so shouldn't be too much of a problem, just a little worried about narrow mountain roads and crazy drivers!

I just have one more question about driving - we are thinking of driving to nine mile although some people are saying its really dangerous - is this true bearing mind we are used to driving on the left and on narrow country roads.

The other question is, is it possible to drive from port Antonio side through the Blue Mountains to Kingston, our car we have hired is a RAV4 which I think means its 4WD please correct me if I am wrong, my car knowledge is not great.

cheers

Hey Laura
The drive to Nine Miles is not dangerous. Just bad rural road conditions (no problem with a 4wd), so you will have to go slow in some parts. It is worth the drive if you are a huge Marley fan like myself.
The roads throught the Blue Mountains are REALLY bad and some maybe impassable (even with 4wd), so I suggest taking the A4 back to Annotto Bay and then the A3 to Kingston which the main route from Porty to Kingston.
Please post a trip report when you return home.

The Annotto Bay-Kingston route was fine last spring, and you can make a stop at Castleton Botanic Gardens and have a swim in the river and a rest there....it's about halfway.
