You'll be close to Cockpit country, which is unique to Jamaica. I've always wanted to have dinner at Windsor - http://www.cockpitcountry.com/DinnerW.html . I love old Great Houses, of which there are quite a few in the area. I've always found http://www.jnht.com/ interesting

I'm sure you've heard about the "Glistening Waters"- a must do, perhaps more than once if you're there for a few months. You can book through the fisherman's dock Check out the Martha Brae river

I would guess you're hooking up with Jim Parent's preservation group? If not, find him.

Check out the beautiful open-to-the-public beach at Duncans Bay, stop in for a drink at Jamaica Jewel and meet Barry and Cher. Saturday nights on that beach check live reggae music at Leroy's fishing bar right on the beach, it's the big night out for local folks in the area.

http://www.myjamaicajewel.com has photos of that beach, Leroy's, the area, etc.

Thanks for all the info guys I'll check it out, now I just have to decide what to pack!
One more qu, how safe is Falmouth and surrounding areas, as a woman I assume that I can't walk around at night alone???

You assume correctly.
A single woman should not be walking around at night by herself.
Not just in Jamaica, but in most places in the world.

Spend a weekend in Port Antonio. Stay at Ivanhoe Guest House 9 Queen St. 876 993 3043
Hit some of the area's lovely beaches, especially Winnifred; maybe go rafting on the Rio Grande ( Albert Harley out of Ivanhoe is a great captain. 2nd choice is Reebo (Captain # 9) Do NOT go with the guys from the green house on the corner.

Walk along the west harbour/ Marina in the evening. Enjoy a late afternoon drink at the marina beach bar ( Norma's on the Beach --- unless it's changed since last May.)

I feel the need to comment that you must be deluded if you think that in "most cities in the world" , woman cannot walk around alone at night. And it is quite sad that you feel that way because it shows what you have been conditioned to. I live in a major city and feel totally unafraid to walk around at night alone, and neither does anyone else judging by the sounds of woman singing on their bikes, riding down the hill in front of my house at 3am on Saturday night in an inner city suburb. Neither did I feel unsafe in numerous other cities I have travelled to over many years. Granted I haven't travelled to Central of South America, or the United States, but I have travelled extensively. Please remember there is a whole world out there when you make such sweeping statements, and though it is a shame many places are dangerous and violent...not all places are quite so and it's wrong to assume that you have to be careful in any city. I do not live in a place where I have to fear for my safety at night, it is a simple as that.
