Does anybody know how the Calgary travel clinic works to get a yellow fever shot without a god damn lecture?
The Edmonton clinic is now a business unit and you spend $48 just to get an appointment!
They must also be in cahoots with Telus because they keep you on line with menues that go on fore ever!

I don't remember the big menu. You could always try to get your family doc to do it but they tend to be leary about giving those shots.

Ummm, why should I pay anything towards your immunization from a disease that does not exist here?
Pay for it yourself or stay home.

The downtown CHR travel health clinic also charges a fee just to see them. I think there's another clinic in Bowness that doesn't make you pay the admin fee but then the shots are all more expensive.

Well, you are bitching about the cost.
If you don't pay for it, taxpayers do, there aren't any other options that come to mind.

The appointment fee is to (partially) cover the overhead costs of running the clinic - you're paying far less than you should be for that, since it's subsidized by taxpayers for some unknown reason. I agree with TP 100% - you should be paying the FULL cost of running the clinic plus the shots, since you're the one doing the travelling.

As for the lecture, all doctors will give you that - it's mandatory if you're going to be licensed to give out yellow fever shots at all. Twit.

Did you go here? It sounds like they're charging for their "travel consultancy services' ("because a family doctor often has a difficult time keeping up with where outbreaks are occurring in the world or with drug resistence issues.") rather than just the cost of jabbing you with a needle.

Looking elsewhere it seems apx $40 just to see one of these folks is average price.

There's a brisk west breeze howling in from B.C. and Alta. once again here in Saskatchewan.

Anyways, we also have quite a bit to pay for our travel clinic here. I try to do as much as I can through my family doc before I go as the travel clinic here is useless in some regards... No one there can give you a prescript any medications or prophylaxis, so you end up going back to your family doc anyways.

From my perspective, the clinic is useless. Shut them down and let family medicine give you the jabs and the lecture. I am quite willing to pay for this, but not for keeping a clinic open that STILL costs taxpayers money... And judging by the receptionist who was wasting time looking at the LPTT on line whilst I was there tells me time and energy is being wasted at MY expense.

That being said, how many of you are on the LPTT on company (and perhaps my) time?
