Toronto to NFLD

If I were to go to NFLD next fall (say, Sept-ish) for, say, a week, leaving from Toronto, what do you think would be the cheapest way to get there and get around?

I don't have any numbers in front of me, but unless you like to drive all day and most of the night you would need to allow three days just to get to Newfoundland. The ferry to the west coast Port Aux Basques is at least a five hour trip plus waiting to load/unload. The ferry to St. John's is about 18 hours. There are no trains. There may be bus service, but it would still be a long haul. So -- I would look into flying.

As for getting around over there - the distances are large and there the population is not dense. You may be able to hitchhike. The people are very friendly. Other than that you would have to rent a car or check out bus service.

I can't be more specific. I am in NS, but have been to Newfoundland a few times and just love it. We have always taken our own car on the ferry, except one time when we flew for a ski vacation.

I agree with christabelle - fly out there and hitchhike.
