Newfoundland and Gros Morne by bicycle.

Country forums / Canada / Canada

Hello everyone!

I will be traveling to Canada in July / August and I would really love to visit Newfoundland. I have been checking distances and possible destinations. Essentially, my plan so far would be to land in Deer Lake, rent a bicycle there or in Corner Brook and travel North towards Norris Point, from there I would move further north into Gros Morne national park. Now, obviously I have a couple of questions.

It would be a route similar to this one (not all of it of course): http://www.bikemap.net/en-us/route/1905965-the-viking-trail/#/z9/49.65696,-58.09844/terrain

Do you think this is feasible? I plan on riding about five - six hours per day (more if possible). I would really love to experience this par of Canada riding a bike rather than driving a car.

Also, is there a way to cross the east arm by water from Norris Point? I don't really want to go around it by land.

Will I be able to use the bike on Gros Morne? Checking online, there appears to be no problem, but I'm not sure if there are restricted areas in the park or special fees.

How much money should I take if I plan to spend five - six days in Newfoundland?

Any recommendations? Interesting places to visit?

Thanks in advance.
