Fort St. John or Hudson Hope.

Country forums / Canada / Canada

Anyone been there? Have any recommendations? Places to stay - things to do? RV rental? Best car rental? etc? Thank you!

Hudson's Hope is pretty but really nothing to do except maybe visit the nearby W.A.C. Bennett Dam, it's just a little village really. Ft. St. John has 20,000 people but is an industrial town with half gravel roads. The Cultural Centre in the middle of town is worth a look. The Quality Inn Northern Grand is the nicest hotel in town, and the best restaurant is Fog & Sudds. There is a nice coffee shop called Cosmic Grounds in the north end of town, and the local community pool is nice for families.

Either one, go in the summer when it's hot, daylight lasts 20.5 hours per day, and there is a reduced chance of getting snowed on.

thanks,

I'm going to a wedding on a lake in July

Two things you have to do before you leave: book a room because everything is full all the time. Seriously. Do it now.
And buy a wedding present- things like a case of heavy DEET bug spray, a case of 12 guage shotgun shells, a Jack-All, a few sheets of plywood - all are good for FSJ residents.

charlie lake?

i grew up in FSJ - hated it

bring lots of bug repellant - especially for the lake - when camping we would be eaten alive by bugs

the nights are short too that time of the year - the sun would rise around 2:30 am set around 10-11 pm

hudsons hope was ok its very small though - i remember finding fossils in one of the quarries near by - still have a few

you might want to rent a car and drive to the kitskatnaw bridge - an old wooden bridge that is curved - its pretty cool - its between dawson creek and fort st john - on the old highway signs point you to it

a lot of the country roads are gravel - so if you rent a car keep that in mind - you may get some dings

FSJ?

Booze/dope/more of same'll do ya!

Eh!?

you forget the heavy metal

Thanks everyone. I'll get on booking something asap. I don't think its Charlie Lake - another one maybe with a ranch style resort as well as camping(apparently there;s going to be some water skiing on the weekend which I haven't done for awhile). The wedding gift is well in hand - personal and from the heart - no 12 gauge shells. I'll track down that bridge - sounds cool - and bring deet

"you forget the heavy metal "

Right, eh!?

Harsh!

9

"Harsh!"

copperspoon - I though you were older than that - like in your sixties or seventies.
