We are heading to Vancouver, Banff, Calgary area for a long dreamed for 'White Xmas'. Who gets into the spirit the most? (with Carolers, Santa, xmas lights and deco’s etc…) Which area goes off the most? Where should we spend Xmas day?
We have 2 young children.

I'd recommend Banff. It's a gorgeous place. Also, there's no guarantee that there will even be snow on Christmas in Vancouver, it happens only every couple years. Calgary will have snow too, but it's definately not as nice as Banff.

your best bet for "white xmas" would be somewhere on the east coast though i can't really think of a place like in the movies. montreal or ottawa maybe?

Strongly recommend Jasper Park Lodge on Xmas Day.
It is in a wonderful location and is totally family-friendly, lots of activities.
Snow is guaranteed.

I imagine it's too far away for you but Old Quebec City is beautiful at Christmas time. I don't know about the actual day of Christmas either but the week before it was very nice.

I'm from Alberta and would also recommend Jasper or Banff. Jasper might be nicer because Banff will be really crowded with tourists, and is expensive. I dont know how many Chrismas-y things are organized, but I imagine they have sleigh rides or something.. anyways check out this site for more info on banff and jasper Explore Canada
I did the wrong thing and promised my kids we would have a white xmas here in Montreal. They fell asleep early, and sure enough, by 9pm it was snowing. Nice surprise for them the next day.

Isn't there some weather almanac online that calculates a percentage on the likelihood you'll experience a white Christmas across Canada? It breaks it all down by cities. Vancouver is the last place you'll want to be. The chance that snow stays around on the ground in winter is slim, let alone it being on Christmas day. Snow generally melts in Vancouver a day (or two, or three) after it falls, and it doesn't fall often.
Mountain resorts will give you that dream-like image, which is why places like Banff would be better.
