I was wondering what people can tell me about the people of Canada. Its something that you cant really read about in a travel guide.
Ive just been hearing stuff that has me wondering. Praising Montreal girls, while saying Vancouver ones are stuck up. Calling Montrealers a beer- drinking people. Etc…

So, can anyone give their own opinions of the people of Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto? Which people are the nicest? Which is your favorite provinence?

Lived in Vancouver and Montreal, never in Toronto.

Met stuck-up girls in Montreal and Vancouver. I ignored them.
Met nice girls in Montreal and Vancouver. I enjoyed their company.

Had lots of beer in both places.

My favourite Province is British Columbia because it's simply better than the others.

What i read sounded terribly judgmental narrow minded. So thanks johnny, although dogheart claims theres some truth in this?

From what I can tell, Vancouver is a very diverse place, so Im hoping there will be all different kinds of people there. IF there actually are many of stuck up girls there, well, I just wont be making friends with them. But Ill save my judgement for when Im able to form an opinion.

If it is girls that you are after, go to Montreal. Diversity, go to Toronto. World class city with scenic views, Vancouver. People are nice everywhere, and people are not nice everywhere. Generally the people that you deal with also deal with thousands of other tourists so their patience will be non-existent. It is not fair to judge a city of over a million people by a handful of people nor a country that is the second largest in the world, from just one city.

Lived in Toronto and Vancouver - visited Montreal twice.
Torontonians are more abrupt, but more likely to actually make a meeting - follow-up is big and lateness is frowned upon.(10 minutes and they'll leave)
Vancouverites are weather-dependent friendlier on the surface but lazy about follow-up. Lateness(20 minutes plus) is almost a given.

I've lived in all three.

Vancouver (but not Victoria!) girls are, on average, colder and harder to talk to than elsewhere. Montrealais of both sexes are generally more open, chatty and friendly. However they can also be quite aggressive and rude, though it's not intentional. The brew-pubs in Montreal are by far superior to anywhere else. Whether that means Montrealais drink more beer, I don't know. You're likely to get the best customer service in Toronto. I find sales people and waiters snootier in both Montreal and Vancouver. Toronto is a more diverse city and I feel the populous is more tolerant and understanding of people from different backgrounds. There seems to be less cross-cultural communication in Montreal and Vancouver. Of course, all three cities are large so you can only take generalizations so far.

Gee, this thread doesn't reinforce stereotypes at all.

Ok, let's try some facts and leave the judgment parts aside.

Montreal's ethnic community tends to be european based (lots of italians, greeks etc)
vancouver's ethnic community tends to more asian based (chinese, hindu, etc)
Toronto's ethnic community has both european and asian influences

Toronto and Montreal offer better cultural events and restaurants, shows etc.
Vancouver is the country's outdoor paradise
Montreal is a bilingual english/french city

Public transit is superior in Montreal and Toronto to what is available in vancouver

There are good and bad people in all three cities. Preferences in girls and perceptions of people's friendliness tend to be coloured by where one grew up. You will find more than enough of what you like in any of the three cities.

OK, now we leave what is "fact" and I'll just give you my personal opinion, having been in all 3 cities.

girls and nightlife - Montreal
concerts and restaurants - Toronto
outdoor activities - vancouver
weather - vancouver
summer festivals - Montreal
micro breweries - Montreal
diversity - Toronto
gay friendly - vancouver
people friendly - Montreal
infrastructure - Toronto

The choice of one city or another will tend to reflect itself in the kind of lifestyle you want to lead. They are all very different from each other, and all of them have good points and bad points. If you can define what kind of lifestyle you want then likely most Canadians would agree to point you to one city or the other. montrealers and Torontonians will likely argue about who has better nightlife, and all will argue about the friendliness of their locals, but I think in most other things for a specific area of lifestyle most would fall in behind one city or another. just so you know, I grew up in Montreal, lived in Toronto and Calgary, and now live in Vancouver.
