Hi all again,

one more question ? Me and my girlfriend are coming to Vancouver with our bicyles for the first three weeks of September. Our major plan is cycling Vancouver Island and the sunshine coast, but there is also a different plan in our minds going from Vancouver to Calgary. It is both possible and cycling through the Rockies must be gorgeous, but I can imagine that the way to Calgary on Highway 1 is not always exciting. What would you suggest, if you are planning a three week biking holiday around Vancouver - I am curious ?

Cheers
Andreas

I think cycling on the Hwy would be pretty dangerous. The island is way nicer anyway.

There are bike routes into the mountains from Calgary, then it's supposed to be a great ride from Banff to Jasper. But it seems to me the ride from Vancouver to Calgary would be gruelling and dull and it can be dangerous, a couple were killed by a truck a few years ago. I'd recommend doing the west coast which is beautiful and quiet in September and maybe bike the Rockies from Calgary on another trip.

People do this every day-it's not at all dangerous.

It's very scenic and the weather should be good.

Like Copperspoon said, the Vancouver Calgary trek is very popular, when travelling through in the summer you can often see groups at different stages along the highway. I believe the area around Golden to the Alberta border is supposed to be the toughest of the trip.
