Hey,
I actually live in T.O. and am looking for anyone that has intentionally missed the last ferry home from Center Island and stayed the night.

Just curious about the best spots to hide out, did you bring blankets...or can a tent actually go unnoticed!?
Best spot...mad mosquitos??
any info is good. My husband and I wanted to get some urban camping in over May 2-4 seeing as the city will empty out and everyone will be at the campgrounds.

Thanks!

I'm sure you know that camping on Toronto Island is prohibited (there, I said it). I imagine they patrol the area both before the last ferry and afterward, and I don't see how it could be fun to spend the night worrying about getting caught. That said, I certainly wouldn't make myself any more conspicuous that you'd already be, so I'd say no tent. I doubt you'll have to worry about mosquitos at this time of the year, just dampness.

If you want urban camping, why not go to Glen Rouge off Kingston Rd.? Yeah it's a campground, but since you say "the city will empty out", it could be worth a try.

I think if we get caught..that's ok...we'll probably get slapped with a fine.
but it might just be worth it.
all the rumours i've heard about camping out there have been good.
I'll let you know.

There are 2 B+Bs on Centre Isle, one on Wards and the other on Algonkian. And...I was raised near Glen Rouge aforementioned. We last went back about 16 yrs ago in Mid-May and I swear, we were drive away immediately by the worst swarm of mosquitoes that we've ever encountered anywhere!! Twas mega embarrassing coz I'd invited the in-laws. A total fiasco for us all. Note tonite in downtown TO they're predicting a low of 4 degrees. Isle will be colder......

I am done. The end.

Actually you can camp on Centre Island. There are permits you can get, though I'm currently figuring out how. The girl guides and scouts get them all the time and camp on Snake Island which is connected by a bridge off the main island. Anyway if you don't want to go about the hassle of getting a permit then it's not a big deal. Security is light. I camped there last summer with some friends and we never got bothered. We did set up our tent in a conspicuous place just in case (the middle of the hedge maze) but we were out walking around most of the night and never got bothered. A good place to camp though is Snake Island, it's easy to find on the map, it offers an amazing view of the city at night and the ground is sandy so it's not too bad to sleep on.
