Hi,

I will be in Halifax for three nights. Can anyone suggest a good hostel or cheapish hotel that is convenient to transport?

Thanks!

I spent a night at the HI on Barrington St. and had no complaints. With a membership I paid $20. One of my friends stayed at the Backpackers which is in a different part of downtown but still convenient and she was happy there (and I think she also paid $20). The HI is right by the VIA train station and the Acadian bus depot.

I stayed at the Halifax Backpackers on Gottingen Street about 10 days ago, and I did enjoy my stay there. I was there for 3 nights, so I can give you my perspective. The hostel is not located in the prettiest part of town, but I didn't think it was overly rough. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to downtown. It was 20 bucks a night, and it's on the #7 bus route.

The staff were very nice and extremely helpful when I asked them questions.
The dorm rooms were a bit on the smallish side, and my dorm room didn't have an overhead light, but it did have a smaller light situated on a bedpost which was sufficient, although not ideal. Free internet is always a plus, and I didn't have to wait too long for a computer when both of them were in use. If you have other questions, feel free to pm me or post on the thread.

I also stayed at the HI. Great place, a short walk to everything. Its surrounded by bars though, which get's pretty noisy.
