On our upcoming trip to the Gaspe Peninsula, we have scheduled a couple of days at Gaspésie NP. Our principle plan is to hike to the summit of Mont Jacques-Cartier to see the Gaspe caribou herd. We've heard there is a fee-based permitting system to use the trail, with only a few trail permits are issued each day; this system limits the impact of visitors on the herd.

We have a specific date that we want to be on the trail and are trying to figure out if we can reserve our spot ahead of time. Does anyone know we can buy tickets in advance and thus secure our plans? Do we even need to worry, or does the demand outnumber the permits?

Any advice would be wonderful. We haven't had luck in getting the park to respond to our emails. Thanks so much.

Check the sepaq website. I see there are seasonal and daily restrictions on use of the trail, but as far as I can see, just the ordinary daily admission fee.

Thanks for your response.

I started with the Sepaq website but I couldn't tell if there was an option to pay the fee ahead of time and secure a spot on the trail ahead of time.

You can book a bus from the visitors centre to the trailhead:
