I am trying to book my accomodation for my holiday in July/August. I am finding that prices in Montreal and Quebec seem to be a lot more expensive than in Toronto. Is this normal? Or have I just left it too late to get cheap 2 or 3 places?

july in Montreal is festival season, with the jazz Festival and the Just For Laughs festival taking place. Both of these festivals are huge, and attract hundreds of thousands of people. Accomodations are at a premium in this period.

That is probably the reason, as otherwise dining etc is usually a lot cheaper here than in Toronto, and remember we have byow restos.

I think you should still be able to get a decent deal, but it will take some doing. Usually the people who ask me are looking for something a bit more downscale - cheap but decent, and university stays (especially in the new UQAM housing) are a great solution) - you can search Montreal or UQAM university stays and find info on this site.
