Hello,
I would like to travel to Nova Scotia, Canada in early April of 2016. I have no solid plans now, but I have about 9 days for spring break from my school in Texas. I would really like to be able to do this without renting a car or motorcycle to cut costs.

Questions:
1. Is this time of year still too cold and grey to have a decent trip there(maybe it makes hotels cheaper?)? And is it suitable for a solo traveler?(not 100% sure im going alone yet).

2. What is an inexpensive way to get around? Is the public transportation there decent enough to allow for me to go, even to small towns without a car? Also, is there a good bus/train route from Portland, ME to Halifax or somewhere? Everything closer than Portland seems to be almost double the price with flights (leaving from Dallas, Tx).
  1. Where would you recommend staying? I would like to see a lot of the Nature and coastline there, maybe half of the time in a larger city and half in a little village. I like to Hike, mountain bike, and meet people. (And not go totally broke in the process, are hostels a thing there??)

  2. Finally, what do most younger people there do for fun? I am 21 and I really enjoy meeting locals when I travel and learning about life there. Not really in to the Club or Party Bar scene.

So, as you've discovered, I really don't know much right now, but it's early, so I think I'm okay. Thanks in advance if you're able to answer any of the questions asked. Also if I left anything important out, feel free to ask.

april is early to visit nova scotia unless you don't mind some winter weather. the public transportation on the island is not great. might be better june to september but not great. halifax is an easy city to walk around and you could spend 3 days there. cape breton is fabulous but you need a vehicle.
