Another question re cost of entering national parks and whether there is a multi-pass or similar?
We'll be travelling from Vancouver up to Whistler, across to Jasper, zigzagging our way through the Rockies to end up in Waterton National Park, then up to Edmonton via Calgary calling in to Head Smashed In.... and the Badlands, flying across to Toronto and having a look at the eastern side as far as Quebec. So, by the end of our journey, we will have visited quite a number of national parks. Does anyone know what our best option will be regarding fees? There will be four of us in a hire vehicle. Thanks heaps....
An annual group pass costs 123$ and can be used across the country. You can buy one at the entrance to most of the parks or from the warden station.
I've also heard that tourists sometimes leave their passes behind when they head home so if you ask around the rental agency you might be able to get a used one cheaper. A daily pass for an adult in Banff is 9$ so four of you in a car would easily cover the cost of the annual pass in just 4 days.

I think you break even with an annual pass if you plan to be in the National parks for 7 days or more. I stress National parks (funded by the federal government), as opposed to Provincial Parks (funded by individual provinces), because you don't need a pass to enter provincial parks (like Garibaldi Provincial Park, Joffre Lakes Provincial Park, etc - both by Whistler)... there are hundreds of provincial parks in Canada, but only a few National parks.
