I will be in Montreal the last weekend of May. I am looking for "recommendations" for moderately priced accommodations for 5 nights preferable in the Old Montreal area or Mile End area or similar quaint, old country style yet accessible to metro or other public transportation. Greatly appreciate your response.
As long as that is not the F1 Race weekend, did you try Expedia? What is modest price for you? In USD?
Hotel Nelligan but doesn't have a pool if you care about this, in old town is mainly geared towards travellers and it's location is the most charming. Old Montreal, tends to be more boutique hotels and are expensive, other thing is that you might have difficulty finding long term parking and the metro is more difficult to reach than downtown. Downtown hotels are mainly chains with according prices .And there are motels and less expensive hotels farther away.

You might consider Chateau l'argoat, two converted mansions on Sherbrooke just east of St-Denis. It is right between the so-called Latin Quarter and the bottom of the Plateau (which runs north along St-Denis to Mile End.) It's old but well maintained and with very friendly staff. Continental breakfast is included and it even has a small parking lot (hard to find; phone and ask directions into the lot.) The Sherbrooke stop on the Metro along St. Denis is just across the road. Because Montreal's attractions are spread out, the subway is vital.
