Hi all!

We're planning a trip to Canada in September and will be hiring a car (large SUV type) in Vancouver to get around. As part of the trip, i really want to visit Quadra Island and spend a few nights camping and Kayaking around the Main Lakes Chain on Quadra Island.

I've seen a few places which hire Kayaks, mostly around Heriot bay, but i'm having trouble planning how to get a hired Kayak from the rental place, to the lakes chain. I suppose my question is; does anyone know of any means of transporting hired Kayaks on Quadra?

I don't think hire cars come with roof racks (i'm checking this currently), i thought about trying to pick one up cheap off ebay or craigslist but this could be unreliable and would prefer not to spend time messing around fitting it. I wasn't sure if there were any trailers for hire in the area, or if any local taxi/minibus services could possibly transport 2 x kayaks?

It sounds a bit like a silly question, but maybe someone who has hired Kayaks in the past found a solution? Any advice would be appreciated,

Sam

You would need to check the rental contact- my understanding is that most would forbid the use of roof racks or trailers in order to avoid damage. I suspect that SUVs would not come with a trailer hitch for that very reason.

My guess is that you're probably looking for a rental company that can transport the kayaks for you.
