Hi everyone,
we have our plane ticket to/from Montreal (we're from Italy) for next august. We'll have 16 days and would like to reach and explore Nova Scotia as much as possible.
We're considering various alternatives routes ( through Maine and through New Brunswick ). I would like to have suggestions for interesting stops along the way and how many days would be better (at least) spend in Nova Scotia. We will be traveling with a 20 months toddler, then distances and activities must be as far as possible kid friendly.
I am aware that there will be many kilometers to do , so I wanted to choose the path that would offer some interesting places along the way.
Thanks!

Having never traveled with a child, I may not be the best to help but here are a few hints that might help your planing. The biggest difference between traveling through the states and Canada might be mostly paperwork and money. Once you land in Canada and cleared, you are basically free to travel as you wish. But if you plan to go through Maine, you would have a border crossing in the states with all the paperwork needed including visas, that would be necessary for you to check and get before landing. Then, you would need some american money, which would then have to be converted again in canadian dollars. One suggestion would be to fly from Montreal to Halifax and from there go visit Nova Scotia. But, if you choose to travel by road, it is mostly highways between Montreal and Halifax. It is possible to do in one day but you would need to leave early in the morning and arrive late at night. It takes about 13 to 15 hours between Montreal and Halifax depending on traffic and number and lenght of stop on the road. Having said that, there are a few spots on the road that are kid friendly but definitely needs to be check before depending on your plans. There are some tourist info on the road when crossing province borders that could help with anything you need. Fredericton in New Brunswick is the capital and is very family oriented, with Kings Landing very family oriented. Moncton has Magnetic Hill waterpark that could be fun for a day or two and a nice break on the road. Sites for Nova Scotia http://www.novascotia.com/explore/road-trips/family-fun or http://www.familydaysout.com/kids-things-to-do-canada/nova-scotia or http://nstravelguide.com/what/kids. Anyway, hope this helps. Sometimes, it seems someone has to get the ball rolling for people to start sharing their ideas. So, have a great trip and welcome to my country.
