International experience/police checks for countries 6mnth + residence

Hello lonely hearts club band members.

Canadian working holiday visa is doing my head in.

Had one application rejected now wanting to make sure I have it all together before parting with my precious pennies again. Im agrarian is impossible to contact, so I'm hoping you may have the answer for me ;)

So I'm Australian, but I have been living and working in japan the last 4 months. I will have been in japan 7 months total by the time I wish to travel to Canada.

The iec states that I need a police check for any country I have lived in for over 6 months. Is that 6 months of making the visa application or entering Canada?

I know it's sense just to get one anyway, however the Japanese officials will only provide a history with proof of need.
As the iec site says needed for 6 months + they refuse to provide one before the 6 month residence period.

The cert takes 2 weeks to process, and the visa application another 4.

So in other words, I'll be homeless, jobless & countryless if I wait till the end of 6 months residence ..,

Is this making sense? Ha , sorry I'm not whinging, just really confused & looking for a loop hole.

Also, I had a DUI in 2008 0.111, yeah I know young & dumb... What's the realistic chance this will affect my application?

The DUI is a serious offence in Canada. Those from the USA get turned away at the border every day if they find out that they have a DUI conviction. Sorry.

However.....yours is now 7 years in the past. I believe that this may be beneficial to you.

I would say that if you haven't been living there 6 months at the time of the application, you wouldn't need the police check.

I had to provide a Police Clearance Certificate to renew a licence in Canada recently. I live in Colombia. They don't provide what Canada needs, however I provided what is possible (which is an online record of "antecedentes") a certified translation, and a cover letter explaining the situation. I called the department involved, explained what I was doing, and they said (in essence) "OK, let's see what you have sent". This worked.

So, I suggest providing everything you can and explaining it in a cover letter, as well as talking to the people involved to explain.

Thanks for your replies. The Canberra High comission finally responded advising me the BAC in Canada is 0.08, as I have exceeded that it is unlikely i will be allowed entry, however the did offer a service where I could send them all my information, and have them assess my criminal eligibilty and provide me with a document to present with my application if the charges were to be overlooked.

I have decided to simply hit the UK & Europe this time instead, I can apply for a canadian working holiday up untill 31, so ill try and tackle it again when im in Aus, and have access to my personal information.

Shame though...

And the lesson here kids, dont drink & drive!!
