This is kind of strange but my friend, who just became a permanent resident here have lost his PR card along with his SIN card and his new credit card. Somehow,he got it back again after a day from his room mate. The guy seems to be up to no good-that's what his inside voice is telling him?!It's true that we know very little about the guy,and we do not have any concrete proof that he took it in the first place?! But we want to report it to the authorities just to be on the safe side, anyone knows who we should get in touch with?Any government websites or something like that?

Thank you in advance!

A call to the credit bureaus, sounds to me like the stuff one would need to get credit in your friends name.

I'd call the credit card company and ask them what, if anything, he should do. They may just reissue a new card to avoid any possible problems down the road.

As for the SIN card, call 1 800 206-7218 (gov't number) and ask them if he should be concerned.

He should be concerned. He should cancel the credit card, they will issue a new one. Also he should check his credit reports with Equifax and TransUnion to make sure no new credit cards have been issued in his name. and I think he can place a fraud alert on his credit report so nothing can go through without checking directly with him.

What #3 says. Equifax will give you a copy of your report for free, although I don't have their number handy. Google them.

Equifax's report will also tell you who has enquired on your account, and when. Credit card companies periodically check up on you as a matter of course. If somebody has applied for a card under his name, it's very likely he'll see a request for info from whichever bank/ issuer on the report with a recent date.
