Hi. I am wondering if it is feasible to hitch the Alaska highway in the October and November months. I have winter camping gear, but will rides be easy to come by at this time of year? I am also wondering if, in October, parks like Kluane National Park, Muncho Lake Prov. Park, and Jasper would be hikeable. Thanks in advance for any info that can be provided. Pete

Won't be much other than commercial vehicles at that time of the year and locals traveling between communities. Many of the truckers work for companies that have policies against picking up hitchhikers. Pay the couple of hundred dollars and take Greyhound bus.

Hikeable with snowshoes. If you haven't experienced the biting cold of the north you may want to adjust your timetable for your visit for hiking.

"... hitch the Alaska highway in the October and November months..."

Really dumb idea, especially in November.

Could be as cold as -40 on the Alcan/Yukon in November, and none of the official campgrounds anywhere will be open. None of the trails will be maintained past freezeup. No reason you couldn't hike them though, other than snow. Muncho is at pretty high altitude, it will snow in pretty early. You might have a fair wait hitchhiking, but you'll eventually get a ride if you haven't frozen at the side of the road.
Enjoy your trip.

Forgot one thing- by mid November there will only be 4-6 hours of daylight. Try to only get rides to where there is a light, like a town or gas station. Hard to get anywhere in the pitch black if you're standing at an unlit intersection or side road.
