If you go to Gaspe and want to kayak, by all means bring your own. The only operator in the region is Cap Aventure and the guy's kayak are substandard and not at all well maintained. Stories of kayak sinking hundreds of meters away from the shore abound, as I discovered when it happened to me!
The cheapo ones they rent by the snack bar are particularly notorious.
