The anger in Brooktrout on this topic is rooted in his inability to get his own Maple Leaf tattoo completely removed surgically.
If only he'd stopped with the beer a couple rounds earlier, he'd have chosen a less visible location than the forehead.....even though he blends in perfectly in Toronto.

True but l was really young and naive when I got it and everyone told me the tatoo would help me get laid when I went to Canada. How was I to know I only needed a pulse.

Here is a new marketing opportunity for MEC, they can start producing sew on Maple Leaf's with a hologram on it so that anyone can find out if the patch is an authentic 'made in Canada for Canadians' and thwart those silly Yanks trying to impersonate their Candian neighbours.

My wife and I were just in France. We were schlepping through the Bordeaux airport for a flight to Paris when I saw a Maple Leaf on a backpack. As I finished shaking my head in disgust, a Kiwi walked past us with about 5 Kiwi flags on their backpack. I was relieved to understand that Canadians are not the only "flag waving" tourists of the world.
I suppose that Kiwi's don't want to be mistaken as Aussie's the same way Canadian's don't want to be seen as US'ers!

Forget the flag. That's soooo "old school". I'm marketing a barcode. It goes on the back of your neck and I call it...iDentification!
hahahaha! I continue to slay me!
Well, I just sewed on about twenty five American flags on my pack now, want to make sure no one mistakes me!
But letterdude, has it right, barcodes baby!! A SKU goes a long way in todays world.....

Carneros: What's so bad about having a flag on your pack??
When I was out touring the world (last year) I had a flag on my main pack, who cares? I'm proud of where I come from, and I always enjoyed meeting up with fellow Canadians. It had nothing to do with trying not to be or look "American". Lots of other travelers have their flags on their packs for the same reason, and some take the opposite position and put all the flags of places they've been. I really don't understand why it "disgusts" you (unless it's from a fashion point of view, in which I'd say "to each his own").
