Oh by the way.......law breaker, get caught with a joint?

My impression from border crossing 100+ times since moving north several years ago is that if the can border officer when exiting doesn't see your entry in his computer screen, they are more likely to consider it an administrative record failure on their part, particularly if you appear as clean cut as a boy scoutmaster, chilled and rise no suspicion.of anything untoward.
Occam's razor. I always answer border questions with the shortest and simplest plans and explanations and all goes well.

#31, crawfrdb, I am confused by your statement "if the can border officer when exiting doesn't see your entry in his computer screen..." as there are no exits checks in either the US or Canada only entry checks.

Good point. I use NEXUS where the can border officer can see my entry back to US as the exit from Canada. I don't think this data is so tightly linked between the two countries for non-nexus crossings.
I know both sides record all plates passing in but thats not the same thing.
It has been announced by these border agencies that computer systems at the border are linked now but even in 2016, I am finding that Can does not have some data from the US live (or they don't often look, if it is available).
I recently brought a friend into Can by car riding in the passenger front seat with a misdemeanor conviction. We were allowed to enter without even being directed to park for secondary inspection. Given that it is hit or miss, I do not believe Can is looking at all or some of the US data ay the entry point or vice versa.

Nah, don't smoke weed. They didn't search me at the border so I could've been carrying. It's legal in Alaska anyway.

But I believe customs officials enforce federal laws, which are different from state laws.
