Hey folks,

Looking for some advice on driving the Trans Canada from Van Island all the way to PEI in May/early June--camping as much as we can depending on the weather--driving it over 2-3 weeks.

I won't bother with the many-times-over-asked questions like "where to stop", etc. but what I'm looking for is advice on how and what to prepare for the drive. Here is my VERY basic list so far---please add to it with whatever you think I haven't considered yet or what I don't really need.

1) Get Map book/Guide book
2) Get CAA membership
3) Get car and summer tires inspected/tuned up (possibly buy and bring one extra tire as my car requires a special type not available everywhere?)
4) Get camping and cooking supplies
5) Stock up on snacks/bottled water/videotape
6) Pack 2 weeks worth of clothes (including a winter jacket)
7) Fill MP3 player to its brim
8) Make sure credit card is paid off
9) Bring my patience and a big thermos of coffee
10) ????????

Thanks in advance, folks. You're always a big help.

put a deer whistle on the car to scare the buggers away from the road

find something to help prevent "sitting in the car for too long butt"

I think you got pretty much covered. What kind of vehicle do you have? A nice camera would be nice for the journey ahead!!!

Get each province's tourist guide. They list campgrounds so you can plan each day's driving. I don't mean plan it all before you go, but each morning it's good to know if you need to make it to a certain point, and where the next campground is if the one you chose is full.

I drove from Calgary to NFLD and back a few years ago in a 1984 chevy truck. The only car problems were a dead battery in Regina and a burned out tail light in Cape Breton.

Maybe check online and see if where the road construction is along your route and if it's worth trying to find side roads. A lot of the time there isn't much alternative, but no harm in checking before you go.

Hi;
Well, you will find laudromatts along the road so you can do a laundry and will not really need "2 weeks of clothes".
Water is readily available.
You will be driving by many coffee shops.
And you will get a little bored if you stay off the main highways. Which I try and do!

I like to take talking books on CD for long drives, I get tired both of music and silence.
Sunglasses.
Condoms and lube, just in case.
