I spent a couple of weeks in Abbotsford in 1994, and went to a bar-club in Chilliwack called "Gregs Place". Good nights out, I wonder if its still there...

The town is nothing special, but I like the natural setting- the mountains are really beautiful up there.

I wouldn't dream of commuting to Vancouver but people do do it.

There's stuff to do there... after all, it is a college town.

Beware, though... in the winter, they can and do close the Trans Canada Highway between Chilliwack and Abbotsford if there's too much snow and or ice on the highway... it may be close to Vancouver in terms of geography, but it's also prairie land, and a lot colder than suburban Vancouver, so when you've had a damp/rainy day and cold overnight temperatures and wind, LOOK OUT!

Laid back? chilliwack? Its in the region called the Bible Belt...If you are in the right church you are ok...otherwise get ready for a lot of comments... Never been a progressive area--they elect only deadweights..Place needs as many pubs as churches...An hour to Vancouver? mabe at 2 AM but otherwise allow 2 hours mininum and if it rains/ snows etc be prepared for a slalom affair....I lefet 20 years ago and do not miss it....

Yes you can choose between the local branch of the Fraser Valley Community College and Pastor Jerry's Bible Academy.

When hear the term "college town" in the Canadian context I think of places like Kingston, Ontario (Queen's U) but I guess we all have our own points of view.
