Hi All

I'm planning a trip from Toronto to Montreal and then to Quebec. We then intend to travel through Vermont, the White mountains then to Boston.

My Question is, are there any rental companies that allow pick up and drop off in a different country.

Also, is train travel between thise destinations easy and cost effective?

Any help would be appreciated

generally speaking, the answer is no. In fact, many car rental companies insist that you not even drive across the border, never mind drop off there.

From Quebec city to Boston you are probably better off taking the bus rather than the train, which is easy and not terribly expensive. You still get the benefits of the scenery too.

We have planned to do something very similar to you. After much searching, I have a car booked for the end of June with Alamo. Pick up Quebec City, drop off Boston. They have given an estimated total cost of $134 for two days. Alamo was the only company I could come up with on the net that appeared to do cross border rentals.

........Although a bus trip would probably be much cheaper, we wanted to get off the main roads and explore some of the little towns etc. Looking at these two days as being the highlight of our trip to the east coast!

Hertz also do Toronto - Boston rentals (or did when I looked a few months back).

It sounds as though these cities are a popular enough requirement to make it worth while. It's not universal.
