Hey guys I need some help.

I will have 4 full days (6 in total with travel) free on a trip to Toronto. I want to head East. Flying is within my budget, but I'm limited to around the first weekend of October.

What I like/Would like to see or do:
fall colours
Zip lining
Nature tours (although not big into birds...) whales/puffins
Boats/mini hikes
Photography
Gooooood food

So where is best to station myself considering I've limited time (not expecting to do every activity), I'm on my own, and won't have a car.

Ideally I'd like to join a 3-4 day tour but I'm aware it's off season and I can only seem to find day tours...

Please help with suggestions and personal experiences

Thank you!!

very tough to do much in the maritimes without a car. have a look at this
http://www.atlantictours.com/cape-breton-island
then you could spend the other 2 nights in halifax

Thanks LTT - this looks great - I could get a car - but as I am travelling alone, I hope to use tours to meet people rather than sit in a car by myself! :o)

I haven't been to Newfoundland, so can't compare it to NS, but if you flew from Toronto to Halifax you could have a nice time around that region (south and west of Halifax) - it's very scenic in a low-key rocky coast sort of way.

Not sure I would drive from Halifax to Cape Breton Highlands National Park and back, and complete the Cabot Trail ... it is a great deal of driving, particularly solo.

Given your circumstances, have you considered Montréal | Québec City (unless you've been to them before of course)?

Thank you Ianw6705 - good knowledge

I have spent a great deal of time in Canada - lucky enough to have seen Vancouver, Calgary, Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Old Quebec!

But I've never been further east so would like to see some of what Eastern Canada has to offer.

It looks like the hostels in St Johns offer a lot of day tours, which could be good for me. Can't seem to find info on whether Halifax does the same :(

I think we just stayed in a Days Inn or similar in Halifax (we usually stay in HI Hostels if available).

If you don't commit to Halifax, Cape Breton, or St John's Newfoundland, you could look at Saint John in NB, and explore the coast from Advocate Harbour (huge tides) right round to Bay of Fundy N P (more tides), and even Campobello Island (where the Franklin D Roosevelt family had summer homes - pretty scenic).

There is also Great Manan Island in the same area - apparently it has a very good HI Hostel as well.

[We love Lake Louise, and the drive south from Jasper is sensational].
