Hey all,
I’m looking into doing a Safari in East Africa (Kenya or Tanzania, or possibly both) sometime in the Fall of 2007. I am a 33yo American male that has been lucky enough to travel to a number of places, both on escorted tours and alone. But I have never been to Africa, and any advice I could get would be greatly appreciated.
First of all, is East Africa safe? Forgive me if I’m offending anyone by asking this question, but I’ve read a number of things on both the US State Department website…
Yo.
I'm looking to train and work as a Park Ranger in Africa, looking in particular to Kenya, Namibia or South Africa. Does anyone have any advice on how to get started? eg who to contact, what parks people have been to, anybody done it themselves?
Cheers, Rob
Ps I'm in it for the long term not for a six month gap year-esque sabbatical
ladies and maybe not so gentle men of the world of travel, hello.
my thanks for stopping to read my words.
my story is simple, Ive joined the rest of you in having escaped succesfuly the life of the conventionally minded, Im trying to avoid living on the surface of life. In other words, I love to travel.
Ive lived for one year in Germany, and have backpacked all over Europe, also I spent 2 years in korea, Im getting my sea legs as it were, but now it is time to move on to bigger better things…
Can anyone suggest a good way to pick up Swahili while I'm in Dar? I'm going to be there for 6 months, and would like to learn at least a little bit of Swahili.
Cheers,
Hudson
Hello all,
I have read so far quite a few reports from which I concluded that photogenic and exotic tribal people already see lots of tourist and hence become quite commercialised i.e. every thing costs. I am not arguing it is not a legitimate way to earn a living and obviously they are poor and there are people who are willing to pay, but I am interested in more than just taking nice photos.
Does any body know tribal or indegenous groups who are friendly enough to just host somebody for a…
Hello all.
I have recently accepted a role working for a conservation NGO in Tanzania at their Headquarters in Dar es Salaam. The role is for a fixed-term of six months. (YIPPEEEEEE!!!!)
I also have an anxiety disorder, and take a rather large dose of Sertraline (Zoloft) to control it.
My question is this: my doctors in the UK are very reluctant (as in, they won't do it) to give me a prescription lasting longer than 1 month at a time, and they'll only give me 3 repeats on any one prescription…
Hi,
As visitors to Ghana, I was wondering what people thought about the castles/forts in Ghana? As UNECSO sites I think more could be done to preserve them. They are crumbling and in need of repair. As Ghana has one of the interesting history/colonial pasts of all African countries I think they could really turn these places into great tourist attractions. The amount of people I know who are fascinated with the slave trade who could benefit from visiting these places is large. I think the people…
Dear all
I am in two minds about doing a (guided) Township Tour or not. I really don't like the idea of "rich traveller looking at poor people" kinda tour.
What do you think?
