Abidjan Accomodation

Hi everybody,

can anyone recommend an area where to stay in Abidjan. I am quite confused after doing some research on that subject. Where would a "normal" backpacker go? Cocody? Plateau? Other places?
I would like to be in the city - some restaurants and bars around but not in a posh diplomatic area, either (if there is one).
Thanks for your help!

I recently returned from my 4th visit to south Omo valley and have a few interesting observations some people may find useful. I was disappointed to see that Kibish was surprisingly more touristic than I expected, and not in a good way. I was even more surprised to find the same in the Kwegu village I visited. “Birr! Birr! Birr!” Maybe on my next trip I will attempt to reach the Kwegu settlements further up the river. I used the services of my usual, excellent tour operator, but insisted on my…

Hi,

I'm looking to do a 4 day hike in the Simiens. I normally try to avoid booking things well in advance so I can have some flexibility during my trip. Is it possible to book a hike on a day's n notice when I get to Gondar? Any recommendations for reliable operators for someone who did the hike recently? What's the typical cost for 4 days? The list in Bradt is a bit outdated, and many of the operators have similar names.

Thanks!

We are planning an 8-day trip to Tunisia.

We decided on the places we want to see. They include both sea+architecture+oases+culture+desert.

As there are not soo many detailed websites about planning a trip to Tunisia, I decided to seek help from Tunisia travel experts here. :)

I will fly from and to Tunus, TN (Carthage).

My highlights:

Tunis

Sidi Bou Said

Hammamet

Sousse + El Jem

Djerbahood - Erriadh

Matmata

Tataouine

Tozeur - Chebika, Tamerza, Nefta, Chott el Jerid

Douz

Hello,

Has anyone had a recent experience hiring a driver or taxi to travel from the Maasai Mara to Mbita or Kisumu? My husband and I would like to do so when we visit in April. It looks as if it takes less time and is less complicated to go to Lake Victoria by car than by plane from the Maasai Mara. We're wondering if it would be difficult to find a driver to take us there and how much it would cost.

Thanks so much,

Melissa

For the ones looking for more info regarding travelling in Guinee, I have a trip report (july 2019).

We travelled with four (my wife and two children, age 13 and 17) for 12 days.

Visa procedure:
We live in the Netherlands and the visa procedure is relative simple. You need a hotel reservation, return ticket, passport more then 6 months valid and fill in a visa application form (https://www.visumdienst.com/download/guinee.pdf). You can also fill in the form at the embassy. The embassy in…

Been to Ada 15 years ago, we are planning on staying there a couple of days again in February. Is it possible to do boat trips to Keta Lagoon or up the Volta River? In an article I read about tons of rubbish and plastic on the beach. How worse is it really?

Hi,

STP Airways allows only 15kg on flights between these islands. I can't find any information of how much more we do have to pay per extra kilogram. Does anybody know?

As far as I understand the flights are operated by Africa's Connection with a Dornier 228. I'm a bit nervous about flying in a small aircraft. Is it ok to fly with?

Two years ago I read about an outbreak of necrotizing cellulitis on Sao Tome. How is the situation now?
