We ( 2 or 4 persons) want to try our first safari in March. I am very interested in Zambia and Flatdogs seemed nice. I am worried about arriving there on march 15, opening day. The price at Flatdogs seems almost to good to be true.
Would we be better off going to Kenya, I have looked at First African Dreams and East Adventure tours and safaris.
We would welcome all feedback and suggestions. Thank You.

Hi,

I suggest you take a look at normancarrsafaris.com in Zambia. Regarding Flatdogs, good deals are hard to come by (at least in Kenya and Tanzania), however they do exist, and sometimes they are great places with excellent service, comfortable, clean accommodation. Good luck!

what ever you do do not book with The Zambia Safari Company. They are in financial difficulty and take your money but you do not have a holiday with them.

i was in south luangwa np last september and didnt stay at flatdogs. but i passed it and heard several really good comments about it. i'm planning to be back this year, and would like to stay to stay there for 2-4 nights. from what i can gather, its really excellent value for money. its a bit cheaper than other options, because its outside of the np (but very close to it) and it doesnt include everything (fullboard, beverages and activities) like most other camps.

i havent been to kenya, so cant comment on that. i have been to south africa 3 times and twice to namibia and once to zambia, and altought i love all 3 countries, the zambia experience has been the most amazing.

Flatdogs offer either full board or pay as you eat . The luxury safari tents are an excellent bargain, around 43 USD. Full board, including all meals, park and guide fees and two safaris a day was around 190 USD per day, also a good price. The camp is about 1km from the park entrance and there seemed to be little advantage in staying at sites within the park as you cannot walk outside of these sites anyway. Dangerous animals roam around and into all the camps, including Flatdogs, which is great. We saw a leopard roving around the entrance of Mfuwe Lodge, for example.

The game viewing in general is excellent, although if it rains things can be a little miserable.
