Hello,

I'm going to visit the falls (Livingstone side) for a short time in October. So my itinerary is intense and has to be without errors. So please help me.

I'll have one afternoon, 2 days and 1 morning.

In the afternoon I want to walk around the falls. What is the best walk ? As it'll be in low water season is it Livingstone island automatically included or it's a separate tour? Do I need a company to organize my walk or I can do it alone?

Next 2 days I think my activities are sorted out.

Microlight flight in the morning/Lion Encounter - 1st day
Full day rafting/Dinner cruise - 2nd day

I'm only doubtful about Lion Encounter. Can you share your personal experience about it?

In the morning on the next day I'll most probably try to enter Zimbabwean side to see the falls from there. I'm glad to here a nice replacement for the case where I'm going to feel that I've seen enough water.

I did the Lion Encounter earlier this year in Livingstone. I was hesitant about it, but it turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences I had in Africa. I really enjoyed getting so close to the big cats, and before I went on the 'Encounter', I found out all about the organisation and their aims and ambitions, which are thankfully focused on the welfare of the lions and their re-introduction to the wild. They do try to sell you souvenirs and a DVD showcasing your encounter, but the pressure to buy isn't too overbearing.

Livingstone Island tours are run separately to any tours around the Falls viewing areas. I think you can book Livingstone Island tours through your accommodation or other tour booking offices (not 100% sure on that one). A tour around the Falls viewing area isn't really necessary. You can easily get transport out to the Falls (don't walk out there from Livingstone) and then walk around the Falls viewing area yourself.

Also, consider doing the Lion Encounter in the morning of Day 1 (the lions are more active/playful in the morning), the microlight in the afternoon and the dinner cruise in the evening. You might be way too tired for it on the second night after a full day of rafting!

Hope this information helps. Enjoy your trip!

Thank you for your answer and valuable advices!

Can you describe in more details what is it on Lion Encounter? Do you have photos from this tour? (if you have I'll be very grateful if you send me a personal message with online address)

Cheers

Can I interest you in taking my Kwatcha off my hands???? I have £100 I need to get rid of!! I did the Lion walk in Zimbabwe and it's fantastic. The falls are definitely better on the Zim side but it's pricey. $30 to get in to the park plus you have to get a Zim visa as they don't do day passes anymore. Get a bridge pass and you'll get a great view and the photos you an buy from Microlighting, which my wife did will be spectacular.

I did the lion encounter this summer and it is fantastic. After a safety briefing & chat about the conservation side of the organisation you are walk out into the bush and meet your lions, mine were lying under a bush. You then walk through the bush with the lions walking alongside and past you and you are free to stroke them if they are within reach, At times you stop and the lions lie down to give you the opportunity to stroke them and have photos taken. It is well worth the time and money to go, im told the afternoon is the best time to go.

Just did the Livingstone Island tour last week and the best advice I can give you to save some cash is to book that for the morning. The price was 60 USD for morning, (730, 900 or 1030 tour), and includes a meal but the price went up for the afternoon. The only folks authorized to go to the island is Tongabezi tours. This can be easily booked through your accomodation when you get there.
