I plan on going on a cycling trip this October in Uganda for 5 weeks.

I haven't found any partners, so I'll be going by myself. I have heard so many good things about Uganda and its people, that I don't want ot miss it. I have a few questions though:

  1. When I'm off the tourist spots, will I be able to socialize with locals and maybe NGO workers along the way? I fear I might get bored between tourist spots (in the tourist places I'm sure to get friendly with other backpackers).

There is a great new camp spot called Lubega’s Camp Site, located only 5km south of Kibale National Park Entrance in the village of Cabakwerere. Look for the sign just before Nkingo village and Safari Hotel. The cook/owner (formerly owned Safari Hotel) is named Charles and is one of the nicest men you will meet in Uganda, not to mention he fixes amazing meals. His chicken in red wine sauce and pineapple pie baked in suitcase oven are to die for. You will no doubt also be welcomed by Charles’…

Hello, I am an intern moving to Kampala for 6 months from Canada. I have just graduated with a Masters degree from McGill University in Montreal. I am looking to share a flat/apartment with someone there. I am very clean and neat. I will be working downtown so would prefer something that would give me easy access to the city centre. I am arriving mid-September and plan to be there until the end of March.

Cheers

Hi,

We are planning on taking a Red Chille Tour to Murchison Falls. We would like to extend the trip and hang around for a couple more days. However, we were told this is difficult as transportation back to Kampala is slow and long. And no public transport in parks. Is this true? Any suggestions?

John

fFrst time we've been able to log on for about a year. Great, I've missed you travel hints and help.

Has anyone stayed here? It is NOT the Wilderness Camp. It is a 4 tent site with twin beds in each and are en-suite. Includes all meals. We do not want to camp and we do not want to pay $380 per night as it charged at the Wilderness Camp. This one is $170 for residents (us) and $210 for non residents.

I'm currently working in Southern Sudan with a friend of mine. We are planning on spending a week in Uganda before heading back home in September. We've heard that rafting in Jinja is awesome, but we have a couple of questions/concerns.

I have rafted about four or five times, all on the same river in the USA, with mostly class three and a few class four rapids. I've never done any class five. My friend has never rafted before. So, my question is this. Is rafting the Nile in Jinja okay for…

Greetings all,

Does anyone know of an 'altenative' method of travelling from Kampala to Nairobi other than the regular bus services. For example, we have heard that it is possible to take a cargo train leaving from Kampala despite the passenger service having been disbanded (?) , or is it possible totake a fairly short/direct overland journey?

Thanks,

Yebo5

Hi All,

I am trying to figure out the fastest way to get from Kigali (the airport) to Kasese, Uganda by bus? Has anyone done this before, and how long would it take?

I arrive mid-day/noon-ish in Kigali. Is it feasible to get to Kabale, Uganda by nightfall, and then the next day be in Kasese? My ultimate destination would be Mutsora in the DRC, close to the border with Uganda.

Thanks.

Hey guys!

I spent some time in Uganda last year and spent a lot of time with Edirisa in SW Uganda (Kabale district). They just announced that they have opened a new backpackers camp site on the equator at Uganda Martyrs University. From my experience, everything they do is unique, cultural, well-done, and managed by a type of interesting locals and international volunteers from around the world.

If you're traveling from Kampala and need a place to stay... or like me and HATE BIG CITIIES IN…
