Do Gorilla tracking companies accept travelers checks as payment?

Why are you not driving from Entebbe through to Bwindi Impenetrable to gorilla trek? your proposed drive from Entebbe direct to Ruhengeri is very very long and will take you over 12 hours of direct driving. I would not attempt this alone, driver essential.
Also, May month is off season, rainy season and you will get permits to trek in Bwindi. Why drive so far to Rwanda?

Our old LP East Africa book (bought for a Tanzania trip years ago) says that hiring a car & driver (basically just a regular taxi) and paying the driver's costs is a lot cheaper than paying for a proper tour through a local agency. I will be in Uganda in a couple of months, arriving in Kampala March 4th. I've read in LP about the cheap tours to Murchison with both Red Chilli Hideaway and Backpackers Hostel (which includes chimp tracking). These both seem like great value.. however, I've read elsewhere on Thorn Tree that these prices are only valid when the tours are completely booked up. I realise March is not peak season so was wondering:

We have 5 free days in Kampala this July (7/1-7/5) and are trying to determine what activities are realistic to take on during that time. Right now, we're considering the following 3 activities:

-- Rwenzori Mts. - 3 day hike
-- Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - 1 day
-- Mgahinga Gorilla Park - 1 day

Is it possible to ge a transit visa on arrival at Entebbe and does anyone know how much they cost and how long do they last?

I will go to Uganda in April and want to go gorilla tracking. So I was happy to find African Pearl Safari on the internet, because they offer 3 days express gorilla tracking tours from Buhoma for 995 US$. But they don't answer my mails or phone calls. So now I am looking for another tour operator which runs similar tracking tours at a similar price (I don't want to go tracking from Nkuringo). Thank you in advance for your help.

We are scheduled to stay at the tented camps at Kibale, and then at the Mweya hostel at QENP... we also have the option to upgrade. On the photos I could find online, the Kibale Tented camps look quite nice. Photos can of course be deceiving. I could not however find a photo of the Mweya hostel.
