I am planning to trek the Rwenzori Mountains in the beginning of January 2011.

I heard there are two companies who offer treks: Rwenzori Mountaineering Services (RMS) and Rwenzori Trekking Services (RTS).

I've read in the latest Bradt guide that RMS had a monopoly for the trekkings for long and does not have a good reputation. RTS, on the other hand, is a brand new company and sofar has only tents, instead of huts. They offer a trekking to the highest peaks (Alexandra or Margherita) in 10…

My boyfriend and I are considering a visit to Uganda and maybe Kenya and at this stage we are quoting with safari's companies in both countries. Initially the intention was only Uganda, but since he hasn't been to Africa, he really wants to see the national parks, savanahs and Big 5... Prices of Kenya are really scaring me, you cannot find anything cheaper than US$ 1000 for a 5 days safari, including Mara and other national park. We intend to go after Christmas, late Dec/beggining of Jan.

I…

Hi All!
I am looking for some info on going overland from Entebbe, Uganda, to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. I am volunteering in both countries between November and December and need to travel between the two. I am wondering,
1. Is there a bus that takes you between the two?

2. Is there a train that takes you between the two?
If so for either or both, how many hours does it take and what is the cost? Also, how often does it run and how safe is it?

ANY info would be great as I need to make my decision…

I am trying to book a hotel (Le Petit Village) in Kampala and asked them 4 questions. They only seem to answer one question per email. I am on the fourth email to have the third question answered. The questions I don't think are particularly bad as the answers are not on their website, e.g. I've enquired about a late checkout, etc...
I feel I may annoy them by having to repeat my emails to them.
My tour operator offered to book the hotels for me, starting to think that maybe I should have taken…

Hello!

  1. We with friends make travel across Uganda.
In particular, we wanted to make Nile trip in Murchison falls NP, shimpanzee trip in Kibale NP, and Kazinga trip in Queen Elisabeth NP.
I heard that in December on these trips can not be empty seats if not to reserve them in advance.
    Whether so it?

  2. I have learned what to reserve these activity it is possible two ways - either through UWA or through such companies as Marasa and WildFrontiers.
Beginning time activity at them at all…

Is there a storage service at entebbe airport? I couldn't find on their website.
If so, how much does it cost?

I'm planning a cycle trip and thinking of leaving my bike box at the storage and cycling to kampala to the red chili. Is it a dangerous road? (it will be in day time)
Do you suggest taking a taxi to the Red Chili instead? (I've got an offer for 60,000 ugx)

I am going to spend up to 10 days in Uganda, in either late September or October.

So, I am trying to book a safari that involves a gorilla trek, and a game safari. Yes, I know lots of people do it on their own - book their own car etc - but I am a single girl and would prefer to do it with some sort of group and guide.

So, does anyone have any good suggestions? I am on a budget (of course) so can't afford fancy lodges or anything. I have also heard that some safaris don't guarantee the gorilla…

Hi there,

I wonder if anyone has travelled or did some sort of safari that combined both Uganda and Kenya. If so, any reliables companies you would suggest? We are opened to ideas in terms of National parks, but he hasn't been to Africa before and so he would love to spot some of the big 5 and the other fauna.

My boyfriend and I are planning on doing this Jan/11. We are not travelling under limited budget, but also don't have loads to spoil. We were thinking of taking 10 days to do that and…

Hi all,

I was just given the name of Hog Safaris by someone in Uganda Wildlife Authority. Apparently they can book gorilla permits. Wanted to check first to see if anyone has had any experience with them, good or bad.

Cheers!

We are an Aussie family of three (8y.o. son) currently living in Bukoba, Tanzania and plan to head up to Kampala in a couple of weeks for a break, bit of shopping etc and to just have a look. Traveling in our own vehicle but would like any information or comments about Backpackers Hostel in Kampala please. Some reports pay it out, others say its fine. Our interest in it is that it is on the West of Kampala which means we can get there, park the car and go about our business without worrying…
