Hi,

I will be traveling around western Uganda for about two weeks in October. I usually prefer to have my own car when I travel, so as to have more flexibility and have the ability to go "off the beaten track". I was wondering if anyone has any experience with hiring a car in Uganda and any pros and cons for this.

Are the prices for hire reasonable? Is it easy to get service / replacement car in case of a malfunction? Which is more fun - busing or driving...?

Thanks!

Ariel

Hello,

I'll be traveling to Uganda in December with my husband and two sons, ages 8 & 12, for work for 4 months. Before we settle, we'd like to go to a beach location- Kenya, Zanzibar, Mozambique? How difficult is it to get from one of these locations to Uganda? We don't want to camp, but can't afford resort prices either. I'd also love to make it to Zimbabwe- I lived there in '95 and have friends I'm eager to see again. Is there any overland route from Uganda to Zim? How long would that take?

Hello,

I am just starting to do some research on this topic and haven't had a lot of luck finding Uganda specific information, so sorry if this is a repost (everything seems to be in South Africa and Kenya). I am going to be looking to import a vehicle to Uganda to use for two years as I live/work in country. I have never been to Uganda before and I have no idea about what makes/models are popular in the country at all. I am mostly concerned about availability and pricing of parts for…

I'm going with my daughter to Uganda in September. I have a provisional reservation with Alpha Rentals for a car and driver. Be grateful for any comments from anyone who has used them. Also, any other recommendations for hiring a vehicle and driver. Thanks.

Hi again,
can someone please advise whether it's true that you get a terrible exchange rate when withdrawing cash at ATMs in Uganda? i heard almost half the rate that money changes offered. So if this is the case, is it worth bringing a lot of US dollars?

Hi all,

I went to Sipi Falls a few weekends ago with some friends and met a really great guide called Malisha who I'd like to recommend. There were 3 of us and we met him a few minutes after we arrived when he happened to be returning from the falls with 2 of our friends from Kampala. Our friends told us that he was a great guide and that we should go with him, so I took his number and we met up later that evening and then went with him to the Falls the following morning.

He was an excellent…

Since I selected a tour operator for our trip partly based on recommendations that I found on this forum, I thought that I should post my own recommendation here.

My wife and I just returned from a trip to Uganda in August 2011. We arranged a 5-day safari adventure to the south west of Uganda including QENP and gorilla tracking and chimp tracking with Activentures Africa over the Internet from Canada. We were very pleased with the service from Moses, the owner and principal guide for this small…

I'm an American citizen looking to get a one-way flight from China to Entebbe. I know airlines often have trouble with one-way flights when you don't have any ticket out of the country.  I am going to be travelling on from Uganda by land to a number of neighbourong countries, and don't know which one I'll end up in ultimately to fly out of.  I had planned to get a visa on arrival in Uganda, but I fear I won't be allowed to board the flight without a visa or something.  Any tips as to what I…
