Its smack in town; no real budget around there that I know off.

Try Speke Hotel, Grand Imperial or Fang Fang Hotel within walking distance. But they are also priced; less so that the Sheraton though. Grand Imperial is a favorite of many a person.

Try the tourist hotel, very central and reasonably cheap

I am a "budget traveller" (and definitely not a youngster) and I stay a few minutes from Tank Hill - at Deep Guest House - safe with guard in enclosure - self-contained with hot water - and I pay $5 a night - no tax - that is if you don't take up the offer of N0 3.
Then - with the balance of over $200 each day you could buy cement, roofing sheets, paint, vegetable seeds, goats, chicks, or whatever and give a number of families a fresh start in life.
Same goes for food - I know I can sit in an upmarket restaurant in Kabalagala and pay many dollars for a single plate of food - but I can also get one of the hungry children that are around to take me behind the shops into the market and feed 10 of them and more (& myeslf) for just a couple of dollars.
Please contact me for ideas???
But I appreciate this is not for everyone - I have done my share of travelling and staying in good hotels but find I get much more satisfaction of helping a few people in a community
