We'll be travelling the below itinerary in a few weeks time, one of us on a Canadian passport and the other on a Swedish passport.

Flying in to Nairobi.
Flight from Nairobi to Kigali (Rwanda)
Overland from Rwanda to Kampala (Uganda)

Our understanding is that Kenyan visa can easily be arranged on arrival in Nairobi (potentially a transit visa since we will only spend a few days in Kenya).

For Rwanda, our understanding is that no visa is needed for either of us.

For Uganda, is it possible to obtain a visa on arrival at the overland border crossings? Are there any specific border crossings that do or do not arrange visa on arrival for Uganda? Do we even need visas?

Overall, our understanding is that for the above, we shouldn't have to arrange any visas from home. Does that sound about right?

Thanks!

You don't need visas for Rwanda but you will both need them for Uganda (they only waive them for citizens of countries that don't require Ugandans to have visas - a very exclusive club) and you will be able to get them at the border.

Try and leave time to stop at Kisoro (gorillas, if you haven't already seen them in Rwanda, and mountains), Lake Bunyoni near Kabale (or Bwindi for gorillas if you haven't . . .), possibly QE NP (unless you're seeing wildlife in Kenya) and the Ssese islands (if you want to chill out) on the way to Kampala. Then there's Jinja (rafting, bungee jumping, source of the Nile), Sipi Falls/Mt Elgon in the west. I could go on . . .

It's a great country.

Thanks, that's very helpful! Struggling with Gorilla permits at the moment...

I think transit visas are around $20 each, whereas single entry is around $50 (it was when I visited).

I flew in and out of Kenya, and travelled overland from Kenya to Tanzania, and from Uganda, back into Kenya.

I was able to get transit visas for both entries - on the second entry I stayed for 6 days (i think max on transit was 7 days)

Of course these sort of rules change, so contact the embassy to confirm.
