on some websites it states that a visa can be obtained at the airport whereas other sites say that this is only the case if you have no ugandan embassy in your home country. i am a british citizen. i have in the past got a tanzanian visa at dar es salaam airport and presumed it was the same in both countries.

YES you can definitely get a visa at Entebbe - its for 3 months and costs $50 US They will take some other main currencies but you get a bad exchange rate.
Multi-entry are no longer issued by foreign embassies.
They tell me you can always extend this at the visa office in Kampala city and that you can also request a temporary visitors permit if staying for a year or so.

As a British Citizen you will have no problems at all to obtain your visa on arrival at Entebbe Airport. I have travelled to Entebbe over 50 times from Europe in the past 10 years with both British and South African passports and never once arrived at the airport with a visa. Have your USD50- ready in cash (the bank notes should NOT be prior to 2001). UK£'s and Euro's are also accepted at an equivalent rate of exchange to the USD amount.

There is only one immigration official handling the passengers that require a visa so you may find yourself having to queue whilst you can see your bags on the belt going round and round. 'Get your skates on' when disembarking the aircraft, grab an immigration form when you enter the terminal and go and fill it in any queue that has already formed at the counter as it takes a good 3 minutes to deal with each arrival.
