Hi

We're off to Uganda in mid-September and will be in the country for 33 days. I know we can pick up a visa at Entebbe (we're UK nationals) and I understand that this will cost US$50/ person. I have read that the visa is valid for 30 days or 3 months, depending on the source. I've searched threads on the forum but not found anything helpful (or I am not searching correctly!).

If it is only 30 days, can this be extended on arrival in Entebbe fior an additional payment or do we have to go elsewhere. If so, where do we need to go and how much will it cost? Advice and help would be appreciated, thank you.

Finally, we are self-driving for 25 days. So we can get some idea as to how much we may need to pay for petrol, how much is a litre of petrol in Uganda?

Thanks

Richard

I spent about a year in Uganda on a "tourist" visa... you can get a 90 day visa at the airport if your lucky (AND NICE!) Just say you want to spend x days and mention you're trying to see the gorillas... whether you are or not... they know how much tourists pay for the permits and they appreciate the income to their tourism industry.

If you only get a 30 day visa, you easily renew it at the immigration offices. If possible, I HIGHLY reccommend that you go the immigration office in Mbararra. We've had a lot of problems getting things done through Kampala, and in Mbarrara they don't even ask questions. It's simple and painless, they just stamp you.

Petrol... I left the country a few months ago, but things were between 1900-2400 UGX/liter (roughly $0.75-$1.75 USD) and that was durring a world-wide petrol increase and the crisis in Kenya so it should be lower.

hope this helps!

If you are unable to get a visa for more than 30 days, you could go across to Rwanda for a couple days and re-enter. You will get a new visa at the border. Of course check whether/not you need a visa for Rwanda first! If you are heading down to Lake Bunyoni, I guess this would be a viable option too.
